For most of his professional life John has been a Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, CPD trainer, Senior Manager, and a Team and Organisational Consultant in a myriad of community based therapeutic services (Voluntary/Third Sector). The organisations included HIV/AIDS, Rape Crisis, Drug & Alcohol Misuse, Child & Adolescent School Counselling, and a Carers Group Facilitator for Significant Others caring for loved ones dying from AIDS. Often John's roles included responsibility for Fund Raising, Project and Organisational Develop, and Staff Team Management.

John has also been employed by the NHS as a Therapist and Clinical Supervisor in Primary Care, and a Group Facilitator for Hospital Nursing and Medical Staff.

He was the first externally trained and employed Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, CPD Trainer and SMT Member for National Relate, specialising in  Couple, Psychosexual, Family, Post-Natal Depression, and Domestic Violence Therapeutic Services.

John worked in Alcohol Misuse, over seven sites at Senior Management level, as a Therapist and Clinical Supervisor, and including teaching on a Diploma in Alcohol Misuse. 

He was a Therapist, Group Facilitator, Family Therapist and Clinical Supervisor in residential drug rehabilitation, and specialised in working with HIV/AIDS, Recovery from Sexual Abuse Groups, Probation Liaison, an Arrest Diversion Scheme, and Primary Care.

John has designed and taught postgraduate programmes in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Couple Therapy, Clinical Supervision, and Difference & Diversity for over twenty-five years. At the age of 38 he was the youngest Director of Postgraduate Psychotherapeutic Programmes.
